UNICEF FGM Statistics

Around the world, over 230 million girls and women have been cut. Africa accounts for the largest share of this total, with over 144 million. Asia follows with over 80 million, and a further 6 million are in the Middle East. Another 1-2 million are affected in small practising communities and destination countries for migration in the rest of the world. â€‹

FGM Official Statistics (UK)

The report includes data on the type of FGM, age at which FGM was undertaken and in which country, the age of the woman or girl at her latest attendance and if she was advised of the health implications and illegalities of FGM and various other analyses. Some data for earlier years are reported.

 

There were 2,090 individual1 women and girls who had an attendance where FGM was identified in the period January 2024 - March 2024.  These accounted for 3,900 attendances2 reported at NHS trusts and GP practices where FGM was identified.
